It’s been a year (almost).

I haven’t updated this blog in a year. Actually, I haven’t really thought about it in a year. I started it in 2009 around this time as I was striving to fix my life and my experience on earth. I gave it up after a handful of posts… Trouble is, it was the blind leading the blind. I was attempting to tell others how to find balance and happiness in their lives, when I hadn’t actually found it myself. I thought I had and I was on the path to perfection. Now I realize there is no such thing.

After a while, I started stressing about not having branding like a logo. I stressed about not posting enough tips. I stressed about not updating Twitter frequently enough. It took a toll and I became sorely bitter about updating this blog with content.

After a year, I got notified that my domain was expiring in two weeks.

For two weeks I’ve debated restarting this project. Two weeks. Last night I was exposing my debates (this wasn’t the only one) to a very dear friend and he encouraged me to pick it back up – to get back on the horse – in a new incarnation. Tonight, 20 minutes before the expiration process would have begun, I renewed my domain for another year.

Here I am. Now. Writing to you all. I apologize for being a flake. I apologize for thinking I knew what I probably never will. I hope old readers will find this post and start following this blog again. I sincerely pledge my willingness and future efforts to be more humble in my expectations for myself and my ambitions (as well as my assessment of ability). I hope new readers will somehow neglect this post and simultaneously forgive my past failures.

I hope the horse will take me back.

Check back in over the next couple weeks. This place will be getting a face lift (though mostly through the back end). I will be posting again. Smarter, wiser, and a better writer. But not nearly done with my learning. I hope to see you all soon.

Thank you.

As more of a site announcement, the One-Year Tightrope will be getting another new series on personal finance.

The articles will focus more on credit building and budgeting, because I know very little about debt (I have never fallen into the trap). As such, look forward to something about personal finance on Thursdays. I will continue to post other things, and the series will not necessarily be every Thursday, nor only on Thursdays.

Have a Merry Christmas and I look forward to returning with an article on Sunday. Happy holidays!

I like to think this blog has a somewhat unique name, especially since for the first time in my life, I actually managed to get the domain of my choice on the first try.

The point of the one-year tightrope is that it will last for at least one year, in which I will share all my plans and goals, and my progress in meeting them, before I attempt to leave the next (again) and move to Austin, Texas.

Right now, I live in Ruidoso, New Mexico with my parents and my boyfriend, all of whom you will hear about frequently, I am sure. I started making money online by taking surveys and writing articles about a year ago, but so far, I have not been that successful. I firmly believe that will change as long as I keep working hard on this blog.

I hope to make enough money to put down a payment on a house and cover my first semester’s tuition, which will be around $30,000 for the first year as a nonresident.

Here, I will share my stories, tips, and hopefully encouraging words with all of you for free. As for making money, I haven’t quite figured that one out yet, but you’ll know when I do, I suppose.

Dear readers,

I am writing this because it is usually necessary (or at least somewhat desirable) to introduce the topic at hand on these sorts of websites, affectionately called “blogs” in this age.

My name is Michael and I am a community college student preparing for a year from now, when I will be moving to Austin, TX to continue my education and begin a career in computer science or secondary education (depending).

The goal of this website is to serve as a sort of journal during my quest for a balanced, happy life. I hope to compile a sort of guide or tip-list for growing as an individual within a community. I also hope there will be some community elements on this website, but if not, I suppose that will not be terribly shocking.

That’s all for now. I will return shortly with my plunge into online authoring.
